What is the 189 Skilled Independent Visa?
The subclass 189 visa is a points-tested permanent visa for skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer, state or territory, or family member. It allows you to live and work anywhere in Australia as a permanent resident.
To be eligible, you’ll need to:
- Lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect
- Meet the points requirement (currently 65 points minimum)
- Have an occupation on the relevant skilled occupation list
- Satisfy health and character requirements
